Man Arrested With N106m Fake Drugs and Condoms

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has arrested a trader, Olisaemeka Osefoh, for importation of counterfeit medicines into Nigeria.

The suspect was also arrested with fake Rough Rider condoms. PUNCH Metro learnt that the estimated street value of the goods was N106, 210, 000.

Some of the drugs seized include, Mycoten cream, Neurogesic ointment and Skineal cream.
In his statement, the suspect said he was in partnership with a cartel based in China, where the products were sourced, before being shipped to Nigeria.

The Director General of the agency, Dr. Paul Orhii, while parading the suspect, said Osefoh was arrested after a tip off.
He said the suspect had also given investigators information on how the goods were illegally cleared through Tincan Island Port, Lagos.

He said, “Operatives of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate raided a warehouse located at Progressive Traders Market known for the sales of jewellery and cosmetic products.

“During the raid at Trade Fair Complex, Badagry Expressway, Lagos, 158 cartons of Skineal cream, 43 cartons of Funbact- A Cream, 719 cartons of Mycoten Cream, 131 cartons of Neurogesic ointment, 56 cartons of Rough Rider Condoms, 20 cartons of Iman Luxury Powder and 205 cartons of Heal Balm were impounded.”

Orhii said investigations revealed that drug counterfeiters no longer specialised only in foreign products but also in Nigerian-made drugs.
He said most of the fake drugs being imported were from China while India was second. He however said the agency was having talks with the Chinese Embassy on the issue.

He said, “I can say for sure that most of the fake drugs we have in the country now are from China while India comes second. The Indian government is giving us full cooperation but we are still having talks with China.

“NAFDAC is working with the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria to track down the criminal company in China that connived with the suspect to ship the fake medicine into the country.”

The NAFDAC boss seized the opportunity to warn landlords who rent out their warehouses to dealers in fake drugs.
He said henceforth, landlords would be arrested and charged to court if their properties were used for such illegal acts.

He advised consumers not to patronise traders who sold drugs secretly in their shops but should use proper pharmacies instead.
“Recent discovery has revealed that drug counterfeiters now operate from markets that deal in other commodities so as not to draw the attention of law enforcement agencies to their nefarious activities,” he said.

Delta State University Student Jailed For Hacking Into Gov. Uduaghan's Phone

A 400-level medical student of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, in Delta State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly hacking into Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s phone.
The student, who failed in pharmacology and pathology course sent a text message, purportedly from the governor, to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eric Arubayi, requesting him to upgrade his scores. It was gathered that the enraged Governor Uduaghan asked the vice chancellor to report the matter to the police and ensure the student was arrested when the matter was brought to his knowledge, as he never sent such message.
The affected student in a statement to the police, however, denied the allegation.
Investigation by our source report showed that the matter was causing ripples in the university, as the university authorities, apparently responding to the request, upgraded the score of the student in pharmacology.
The poser by concerned stakeholders is: Assuming, but not conceding that the text message emanated from the governor, should the vice chancellor have altered the scores of a student that failed his examination?”

Chief Judge of Lagos State Grants Amnesty To 88 Kirikiri Prisons Inmates

Lagos Chief Judge Grants Amnesty To 88 Kirikiri Prisons Inmates
On Tuesday, 30th April 2013, Justice Ayotunde Philips released 88 inmates awaiting trial at the Kirikiri Prisons Ikoyi.

The released inmates included eight women and 80 men, who had been awaiting trials for upward of between three and nine years.

Justice Phillips had earlier released 279 inmates from the Kirikiri Maximum and Medium Security Prisons and Ikoyi prisons last year.

The Chief Judge, who was accompanied by senior members of the judiciary, including judges and the Chief Registrar, admonished the freed inmates to be of good behaviour.
“There is a saying in the legal circle that it is better for 10 guilty persons to be free than for one innocent person to be incarcerated.
“I release you all from custody today and admonish you to go and sin no more,” she said.
Justice Phillips remarked that the matter of awaiting trials and decongestion of prisons was very close to her heart.
Earlier, the Deputy Controller of the female section, Ishioma Onweli, said she had compiled a list of 16 other inmates and pleaded with the Chief Judge to look into their cases.
Mrs Onweli said they were afflicted with different ailments like tuberculosis, HIV, hypertension, diabetics, among other diseases.
She said the female facility built to accommodate 211 had 207 inmates, out of which, 167 are awaiting trial, 36 convicted, three were condemned, while one was on a life sentence.

The deputy controller of the male section of the medium prison, Tunde Ladipo said in spite of the volume of those released, the prison was still congested with awaiting trials.
“We need you to visit this place again to lessen our burden,” he pleaded.
He also disclosed that the male section, which was built to accommodate 1,700 inmates, presently houses 2,496 out of which 2,344 are awaiting trials and 152 are convicted

DON'T BE DECEIVED, AND DON'T QUIT!

Are you one of those who compare your spouse/family to that of your friends, colleagues?
If your answer is YES,  I seriously urge you to stop!
Ever heard of the saying, "the grass always looks greener on the other side"?
Every family is unique in its own way and the worst thing you can do to your family is compare it to others because just when you think the other woman/man has the best family, he or she may just be quietly wishing their family was like yours.

Do not listen to that person who tells you that his/her or marriage is picture perfect. The truth is, it isn't. They just know how to manage their relationships even in the heat of anger.
Lots of marriages and relationships have ended based on these little things that most of are guilty of.

Word of the day: Manage your relationship and don't quit (except if you're  in an abusive relationship sha)
